I like the convenience of login in with facebook or google, but I feel strongly that my online identity shouldn't be so tightly coupled with a for-profit company. I want to cancel my facebook but it's really hard to do now that I'm using it to log in to ~50-100 sites.

If some big non-profit, open source foundation released a free alternative and it actually was adopted by other services, would you start using it?

Also, another question, what foundations do you find trustworthy today?
